PROGRAM
Part I – Solo Cello: Daniel Gaisford
Daniel will open the concert with two of Bach’s iconic cello suites:
- Suite No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007 – beloved for its warmth and lyricism, featuring the famous Prelude that has become one of classical music’s most recognizable works.
- Suite No. 6 in D major, BWV 1012 – the grandest and most virtuosic of the six, showcasing Gaisford’s full expressive range.
Intermission
Part II – Cello & Piano: Daniel Gaisford with Christian Bohnenstengel
After intermission, pianist Christian Bohnenstengel joins Gaisford for a dynamic and colorful second half:
- Debussy’s Sonata for Cello and Piano in D minor – a masterpiece of impressionistic color, full of mystery, wit, and passion.
- Lukas Foss’s Capriccio – lively and modern, filled with rhythmic play and musical energy.
- Ginastera’s Pampeana No. 2 – an Argentine showpiece pulsing with folk rhythms and fiery emotion.
