From the Borderlands to the Roots is a multidisciplinary exploration of migration, identity, labor, and belonging. Inspired by Latinx culture and immigrant experiences, the work considers migration in its many forms—across national borders, within countries, and between communities—and the sacrifices, transformations, and resilience that accompany the search for a new home. At its heart, the work honors the laborers and working-class individuals whose contributions sustain our communities, while celebrating the cultural histories, traditions, and identities they carry with them.

Created by acclaimed Mexican choreographer and interdisciplinary artist Stephanie García and visual and conceptual artist Peter Hay, the project brings together two artists with extensive international experience and a shared commitment to collaboration and cultural exchange. García, a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow in Choreography, has created more than 30 interdisciplinary works presented across the Americas, Europe, and Africa and is co-founder and co-director of Punto de Inflexión Project and PROArtes México. Hay, also co-director of PROArtes México, is an accomplished visual artist, educator, and arts administrator whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, from New York City to Colombia and Bulgaria. Together, García and Hay create work that moves across artistic disciplines and borders, inviting audiences to encounter questions of place, culture, memory, and connection in new ways.
