SUMMARY:Geology of Southern Utah: Deep Time to Real Time With Dr. Cari Johnson
DESCRIPTION:VOYAGER LECTURE SERIES\nGeology of Southern Utah: Deep Time to Real Time With Dr. Cari Johnson\nThursday\, September 26\, 7:30pm Social Hour begins at 6:30pm\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\nUncover the secrets of Southern Utah’s dramatic landscapes with Dr. Cari Johnson! \nJourney through time at the Center for the Arts at Kayenta’s Voyager Lecture Series: “Geology of Southern Utah: Deep Time to Real Time” \nFrom ancient Sahara-like dunes to vanished seaways\, discover how our iconic red rocks formed over millions of years. Dr. Johnson will guide you through the fascinating story written in stone\, concluding with cutting-edge research on the Glen Canyon dam’s impact. \nDon’t miss this mind-bending exploration of our region’s geological wonders. Book your spot now and see Southern Utah with new eyes! \nThis year’s Voyager Lecture Series follows “The History of This Land\,” from the deep time studied in geology\, through modern concerns related to our changing environment. \nReserve your tickets for the full 8-lecture series! \nDr. Cari Johnson is a Professor of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Utah. Dr. Johnson’s research is broadly based in sedimentary basin analysis\, including contributions to understanding the tectonic evolution of Asia\, global perspectives on basin and energy systems modeling\, and subsurface reservoir characterization and prediction. More recent work has centered on anthropogenic sedimentary systems such as Lake Powell reservoir sediment and deltas\, as well as energy transitions including carbon management and sedimentary geothermal resources. \nDr. Johnson is a Geological Society of America Fellow\, and the 2021 recipient of the Dickinson Medal from the Society for Sedimentary Geology. She has advised ~30 graduate and undergraduate student researchers and postdoctoral research associates during her career so far. She also enjoys flying small airplanes as a private pilot\, playing tennis\, cycling\, and skiing\, and is the proud mother to two teenage girls and one Portuguese water dog. \nTickets $25
