SUMMARY:ALFREDO RODRIGUEZ & PEDRITO MARTINEZ
DESCRIPTION:ALFREDO RODRIGUEZ & PEDRITO MARTINEZ\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, February 7\, 2026\n7:30PM\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\n\n\n\nAlfredo Rodríguez & Pedrito Martinez bring an electrifying conversation of rhythm\, melody\, and cultural heritage to the Center for the Arts at Kayenta. What begins as an intimate exchange between piano\, percussion\, and voice quickly erupts into a thrilling\, improvisation-driven performance that blurs the lines between classical precision\, Afro-Cuban tradition\, and modern jazz. \nGrammy-nominated pianist Alfredo Rodríguez\, a Havana conservatory prodigy discovered by Quincy Jones\, commands the keyboard with a style shaped as much by Bach and Stravinsky as by Cuban son and jazz. Percussionist and vocalist Pedrito Martinez\, forged in the folkloric traditions of Old Havana’s streets\, delivers visceral rhythms and soaring vocals rooted in Afro-Cuban spiritual and popular music. Each artist is a master in his own right; together\, they form a rare and powerful musical dialogue. \nTheir collaboration is spontaneous\, fearless\, and deeply expressive—moving seamlessly from traditional Cuban songs to daring originals and unexpected reinterpretations. With moments of breathtaking virtuosity and irresistible groove\, Rodríguez and Martinez create music that feels both ancient and boldly contemporary. \nTheir acclaimed album Duologue\, produced by Quincy Jones\, and their limited live appearances have established them as one of the most compelling duos on today’s global music stage. Audiences can expect an unforgettable evening of passion\, precision\, and rhythmic fire—music that speaks across cultures and straight to the soul. \nTICKETS\n  \n \n  \n  \nKayenta Arts’s presentation of the Alfredo Rodriguez & Pedrito Martinez is supported through a Chamber Music America Presenter Consortium for Jazz grant in collaboration with UtahPresents and Vilar Performing Arts Center. \nA component of the Doris Duke Jazz Ensembles Project\, Presenter Consortium for Jazz is funded by the Doris Duke Foundation.

SUMMARY:Cassia Streb / Sandstone Quartet - Music for the Open Sky
DESCRIPTION:MUSIC\n \nCassia Streb / Sandstone Quartet\n \nMusic for the Open Sky\n \nSaturday\, April 4\, 2026\, 7:30PM\n \nPerformance to be followed by a reception with the artists.  \n \nLorraine Boccardo Theater\n \n\n“Across centuries\, composers have looked to the night sky as a place for reflection—an expanse that invites both wonder and humility. This program brings together music written more than five hundred years apart\, tracing different ways composers have contemplated the heavens.” \n\nCassia Streb\n\n \nFor centuries\, composers have looked to the night sky as a source of reflection and wonder. This program brings together music written more than 500 years apart\, tracing different ways artists have contemplated the cosmos. \n \nBeginning with Josquin des Prez’s haunting Renaissance lament—heard here in a new 2026 string quartet arrangement—the program moves through Beethoven’s luminous “Razumovsky” Quartet\, whose slow movement was inspired by his contemplation of the stars. Contemporary works by Leila Adu-Gilmore and Laurence Crane extend this tradition\, blending spectral harmony\, rhythmic complexity\, and fragments of Beethoven with imagery captured by NASA spacecraft and telescopes. \n \nTogether\, these works invite listeners to pause\, look upward\, and hear the vastness of the universe translated into sound. \n \n\nTICKETS\n\n\nPerformers\n\n Felix Hernandez-Jones\, violin\n Adrienne Andisheh\, violin\n Cassia Streb\, viola\n Kevin Mills\, cello\n\n\nAbout Sandstone Quartet: \n \n \nWorking collaboratively rather than hierarchically\, the quartet selects and develops repertoire that speaks to their individual and collective experiences. Their performances emphasize attentive listening\, trust\, and responsiveness — qualities that reflect both their musical values and the landscape they inhabit. The Sandstone Quartet’s work embodies a deep sense of place\, shaped by the quiet expanses and subtle shifts of the desert environment that connects them.

SUMMARY:Aristides Rivas and Meena Malik: Remembering\, A Theatrical Concert
DESCRIPTION:MUSIC & STORYTELLING\nAristides Rivas and Meena Malik\nRemembering\, A Theatrical Concert\nSaturday\, April 25\, 2026 | 7:30pm\nPerformance to be followed by a reception with the artists.  \nLorraine Boccardo Theater\nRemembering is more than a concert—it’s a powerful musical storytelling experience about identity\, memory\, and belonging. Acclaimed vocalist Meena Malik and masterful cellist Aristides Rivas weave together music and personal narrative to explore their journeys as immigrants\, artists\, and parents. \nInspired by a question from their son—“What is an immigrant?”—the program reflects on the traditions they carried from their home countries of Japan and Venezuela\, the challenges of navigating grief and change\, and the healing role music has played in their lives. \nThough deeply personal\, their stories resonate universally. Through song\, reflection\, and shared experience\, audiences are invited to consider their own connections to home\, heritage\, and the memories that shape who we are. \nTICKETS \n\n \nAristides Rivas and Meena Malik: Remembering is generously sponsored by Sunshine Family Haven.
