SUMMARY:Utopian Hotline
DESCRIPTION:THEATER / IMMERSIVE INSTALLATION\nUtopian Hotline\nA Mitu Collaboration\nOpen Installation: October 11-13\, 2024\, during ART IN KAYENTA\nPerformances: October 17-20\, 2024\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\n“Part sci-fi call center\, part group therapy for those who long to connect\, Utopian Hotline. is a meditative and soothing experience.” – No Proscenium \n“It is a multidisciplinary cloud ride to the stars and back.” – The Front Row Center \nStep into the cosmic conversation with Theater Mitu’s latest creation out of Brooklyn\, New York. Inspired by the 1977 NASA Voyager mission\, which launched a vinyl recording of natural sounds found on Earth into space\, as well as the uncertainty and isolations in our world today\, this experimental performance begs the question: if we were to send another message into the  distant future\, what message would we send? \nPart vinyl recording and part live performance\, Utopian Hotline uses real voicemails left on a public hotline and to create a moment of community\, while inviting audience members around a communal table to re-imagine our shared future. \nWhat You’ll Experience: \n– This is a non-narrative performance installation\, which is experienced entirely on headphones. Think of it as a puzzle and the missing piece is you.  The headphones act as a tether\, connecting you to the performers. \n– This is an immersive installation. You will be invited to remove your shoes upon entrance to the exhibit and choose a spot to sit on a comfortable pink carpet. We are happy to support any additional accessibility needs. \n– Each performance is approximately 45min in duration with multiple performances occurring on each day (please see the schedule for exact timings). \n– There is no intermission. \nAbout Theater Mitu: \nDriven by a commitment to innovation\, Theater Mitu expands the definition of theater through methodical experimentation with its form. \nFounded in 1997\, Theater Mitu has earned a wide reputation as an adventuresome and dynamic ensemble of artists. Under the leadership of Founding Artistic Director Rubén Polendo\, the Company is committed to challenging the parameters of theater research and practice. Theater Mitu’s work is situated in the tension between acting and performance\, theatrical design and installation\, multimedia and interactive technology. Their practice investigates trans-global performance; interdisciplinary collaborative models; the performativity of non-violence; the geopolitics of objects; contemporary mythology; artist training\, ritual and the sacred. Its considerable body of work has taken on a variety of forms: developmental and production work with some of the world’s leading theatrical innovators\, research and pedagogical work with renowned universities and conservatories\, engagement with non-theatrical communities\, and international trainings and research initiatives with leaders in the field. \nTickets $45

SUMMARY:The Ancient Life of Washington County
DESCRIPTION:VOYAGER LECTURE SERIES\nThe Ancient Life of Washington County\nWith Jerry Harris\nTuesday\, October 29\, 7:30pm\nSocial Hour begins at 6:30pm\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\nJoin fan-favorite presenter\, Jerry Harris\, for an exploration of ancient life in Washington County. Jerry Harris is the Director of Paleontology Science Department at Utah Tech University\, and is an advisor to the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm. \nSouthwestern Utah is a desert today\, but throughout prehistory\, it’s been many different environments: under the ocean\, a “sea” of sand dunes\, a forested river floodplain\, a freshwater lake\, and more. Evidence for each of these comes from the layers of rocks preserved in Washington County. Each of these environments hosted its own unique fauna and flora\, some of which are preserved as fossils. Their stories tell us about the ever-changing nature of our backyard. \nThis year’s Voyager Lecture Series follows “The History of This Land\,” from the deep time studied in geology\, through modern concerns related to our changing environment. \nTickets $25

SUMMARY:VOYAGER LECTURE SERIES: First Peoples and Ancestral Puebloan Culture
DESCRIPTION:VOYAGER LECTURE SERIES\n \nFirst Peoples and Ancestral Puebloan Culture\n \nWith Diana Hawks\n \nTuesday\, December 3\, 7:30pm\n \nSocial Hour begins at 6:30pm\n \nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\n \nFor more than 2\,000 years the Ancestral Puebloan people lived and thrived in the northern part of the Southwestern U.S. Learn about how they and their predecessors survived and adapted to changing environmental conditions. And how the Ancestral Puebloan succeeded as farmers and village dwellers in an arid desert until AD 1300. Find out where they went after AD 1250 and why they abandoned this area completely. \n \nThis year’s Voyager Lecture Series follows “The History of This Land\,” from the deep time studied in geology\, through modern concerns related to our changing environment. \n\n\nTICKETS\n\nThe Voyager Lecture Series is generously sponsored by:

SUMMARY:VISUAL ART: Sierra McGuire Art
DESCRIPTION:VISUAL ART\nSierra McGuire Art\nFriday\, December 6\, 2024 – Sunday\, January 26\, 2025\nJudy & Tim Terrell Main Lobby\nWe are proud to host exceptional guest artists for pop-up solo exhibitions in the Judy & Tim Terrell Lobby at the Center for the Arts. All artwork on display is available for sale\, directly benefitting the artist with a small percentage supporting Kayenta Arts Foundation. \nOur Lobby is open Monday through Saturday\, 10am-6pm\, plus one hour before all evening events. \nSierra McGuire is a local watercolor artist living in Southern Utah. \n“My artwork is a reflection of how I see nature. Painting it feels like an extension of my soul. My goal is to help my viewers experience the peace and serenity that I feel as I experience nature myself. I take my sketch book out with me as I’m hiking in red rocks\, rocking my babies on my back porch\, or backpacking the Andes. Each painting speaks loudly. I paint wildflowers for their song of beauty\, I paint mountains to show strength\, I paint trees for their calmness in growth\, and I paint skies to express the endless possibilities the world has to offer us. To me nature is the ultimate healer and teacher. I hope my painting can give you that same feeling when you display it in your home.” \nLearn More at sierramcguireart.com/
