SUMMARY:Coyote Tales: MAKING PEACE
DESCRIPTION:COMMUNITY & STORYTELLING\n\n\n\nCOYOTE TALES True Stories Told Live\nThe Night’s Theme: MAKING PEACE\nFriday\, February 09\, 2024 // 7:30pm\nPre-show party 6:30 pm (event ticket required for admission)\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\nCoyote Tales are live\, open-mic style storytelling events with amateur and experienced storytellers. Each event has a theme on which stories are to be based. The theme for this event is: “MAKING PEACE.” Potential storytellers may address that theme in any way they choose. Prior to the event\, storytellers craft their true\, on-theme story\, practice the telling (5 minutes or less)\, and work on eliminating excess detail to nail the perfect ending. When the doors open\, potential storytellers put their name in the hat in hopes of being chosen to share their tale. If chosen\, the storyteller takes the stage to delight the audience. Coyote Tales is delighted that OUTSIDE MAGAZINE will be recording storyteller David Lindes’ take on the evening’s theme along with David’s original song\, Gold in the Ashes for future broadcast on their popular podcast\, OUTSIDE. \nFOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO GET ON STAGE TO SHARE YOUR TALE\, PLEASE CONTACT VICTORIA THROUGH THE COYOTE TALES WEBSITE: https://coyotetalesstories.com/ \nThis project is funded by Petite Feast\, Utah Humanities\, Utah Arts and Parks\, Kayenta Homes and Properties\, SBDance & Desert Dweller Realty \nTickets $20

SUMMARY:Voyager Lecture Series: Common and Not-So-Common Birds of Southwest Utah
DESCRIPTION:LECTURES & IDEAS\nVoyager Lecture Series\nCommon and Not-So-Common Birds of Southwest Utah\nPresentation by Paul Jauusi\nTuesday\, January 30\, 2024 // 7:30pm\nOptional Social Hour With Like-Minded Friends\, Light Snacks And Beverages @ 6:30pm\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\nPaul Jaussi was introduced to birding in college when he first saw a Western Tanager through a pair of binoculars and was hooked. That event started a passion for birding that has followed him throughout his life. While a native of Utah\, he lived in Oregon for 22 years\, where he helped grow the Friends of the Refuge for the newly founded Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge\, serving as both a Board member and Vice President for several years. \nPaul and his family recently moved to St. George\, Utah where he was surprised at the wildlife diversity of the area. When the small Red Cliffs Audubon chapter was on the verge of shutting down\, Paul agreed to take over so the birds and wildlife in this area didn’t lose their voice and served as president for 5 years. A manufacturing engineer by profession\, Paul loves being outdoors whether hiking\, backpacking\, canyoneering\, or leading birding field trips for the Audubon. He loves sharing the beauty and birds of Greater Zion with others. And he especially loves his wife and five children. \nThe Voyager Lecture Series is generously sponsored by Voyager Wealth Advisors\, Cache Valley Bank\, and Richardson Brothers Custom Homes. \n \n  \nTickets $20

SUMMARY:JOE RAINEY: NIINETA
DESCRIPTION:MUSIC\nJOE RAINEY: NIINETA\nSaturday\, October 28\, 2023 // 7:30pm\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\nPow Wow singer Joe Rainey performs his debut collection of songs\, backed by electronics and Owls quartet\, arranged by collaborators Andrew Broder & William Brittelle. \n\n“You’ve never heard anything quite like Joe Rainey’s avant-garde Pow Wow music.” \nPitchfork \n\nNiineta\, Joe Rainey’s debut album on 37d03d is a landmark in modern indigenous music. These are bold\, electrifying songs that recontextualize the ancient Pow Wow sound in strange\, new in-between places. Each note conveys a clear message\, no matter the inflection: We’re still here. We were here before you were\, and we never left. The songs that make up Niineta (translated from Ojibwe\, meaning ‘Just Me’) start with Andrew Broder’s churning avant-garde beats\, configured and hand-made to support Joe’s original melodies\, tunes written from a lifetime of competitive Pow Wow singing and drum group archiving. All of this is embraced by and interwoven with celestial strings\, arranged by Broder and William Brittelle\, performed by Owls\, giving Joe’s melodies a cinematic and ecstatic lift. \nPurchase Tickets Here
