SUMMARY:Elisa Harkins: Wampum / ᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ
DESCRIPTION:MUSIC / PERFORMANCE\nElisa Harkins: Wampum / ᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ\nSaturday\, May 10\, 7:30pm\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\nWampum / ᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ is an ongoing project where visual artist and composer Elisa Harkins sings in a combination of Cherokee\, English\, and Muscogee (Creek) to electronic dance music\, some of which is inspired by sheet music of Indigenous music notated by Daniel Chazanoff during the 20th century. \nAs an act of Indigenous Futurism\, it combines disco and Indigenous language in an effort to alter the fate of these endangered languages through active use\, preservation on pressed vinyl\, and radio play. \nThe performance of Wampum / ᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ is referring to Wampum belts and Indigenous peacekeeping as well as the Cherokee use of wampum beads as currency. \nᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ\, pronounced a-de-la di-ga-gu-di can be translated to “money on a string”. \nThe intention of the Wampum / ᎠᏕᎳ ᏗᎦᎫᏗ performance is to create a metaphorical peacekeeping agreement that is between the people watching the piece\, regardless of tribe or race. \nTICKETS

SUMMARY:The Bowerbird Collective
DESCRIPTION:MUSIC\nA Season on the Wind | Music for Migratory Birds\nThe Bowerbird Collective\nSaturday\, May 17\, 7:30pm\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\nThe Bowerbird Collective proudly presents ‘A Season on the Wind’\, a cinematic concert based on author\, ornithologist and conservationist Kenn Kaufman’s book of the same name. This event is an inspiring ode to migratory birds\, and an unforgettable night of musical storytelling. A musical and visual journey from the shores of Lake Erie across the Americas\, this performance stars three internationally acclaimed musicians\, and features spectacular visuals and soundscapes. Created by the Bowerbird Collective\, an award-winning Australian-based organization making art for nature\, at the invitation of the Biggest Week in American Birding festival and Kenn Kaufman himself\, the work features a newly commissioned score by The Brothers Balliett (NYC)\, whose music is praised as “vivid\, emotive\, with contemporary twists”. \nAlso featured on the program is ‘Rivers are our Brothers’\, a song cycle by Majel Connery on ecological responsibility told from the point of view of the land. Commissioned by Musica Sierra and created in partnership with Learning Landscapes\, an educational program of the Feather River Land Trust\, the songs in the cycle take a first-person view of nature\, ascribing human qualities and feelings to elements of the landscape: water\, trees\, mountains\, rivers\, etc. You can stream the cycle on Apple Music\, Spotify or Bandcamp. \nTICKETS

DESCRIPTION:FILM\nThe Golden Age: A Passion to Last a Lifetime\nFriday\, June 6\, 7:30pm\npart of DOCUTAH\nThe Lorraine Boccardo Theater\nThis film takes the viewer on an enthralling\, and very engaging\, look at the topsy-turvey season of the Golden Age League played in Corona Park\, Queens. \n\nThe competitive league is made up of Latin American players (all over 40) — some of which played professionally back in their homelands — duking it out each Saturday on a patch of grass. Despite their former glory (not to mention the addition of a few hanging guts and some aching muscles)\, it doesn’t stop the players from competing among a flurry of passion and\, very often\, red cards. \n  \nTICKETS
