SUMMARY:VOYAGER LECTURE SERIES: The Domínguez-Escalante Expedition
DESCRIPTION:VOYAGER LECTURE SERIES\nThe Domínguez-Escalante Expedition\nand Spanish Mapping of the North American West\nDr. Charlotte Hansen Terry\nThursday\, November 5\, 2026\nSocial Hour at 6:30p // Presentation at 7:30p\nWhen people in the United States generally think about 1776\, they think about the signing of the Declaration of Independence. But what else was happening during that same period across the continent? \nCome learn more about what was occurring in the North American West. The Domínguez–Escalante expedition left Santa Fe in 1776 to try and find an overland route to California\, and that journey brought them here to our own back yard in Southern Utah. \nDr. Charlotte Hansen Terry is an Assistant Professor of U.S. History at Utah State University – Uintah Basin campus. She frequently teaches U.S. history\, Utah history\, and the history of the American West. Her research focuses on the varied connections between the North American West and Pacific\, including the movement of people and ideas and the relationships between religions\, empires\, and nations in the region. She is excited to be back in Utah and living near the Uintas which she has hiked since childhood. \nTICKETS

SUMMARY:Almost All to the West
DESCRIPTION:MUSIC\nAlmost All to the West\nGrand Circle New Music\, with guest conductor Nathan Haines and guest narrator Sam Payne\nSaturday\, November 14\, 7:30pm\nSteven Ricks\, composer\nStephen Tuttle\, librettist\nBrent Barson\, video artist \n\nIn 1776\, Franciscan friars Francisco Atanasio Domínguez and Silvestre Vélez de Escalante set out from Santa Fe in search of an overland route to California. Their expedition carried them across the vast and unfamiliar landscapes of what is now the American Southwest—and through encounters that would become part of the complex history of exploration\, culture\, faith\, and colonization in the West. \n\nAlmost All to the West transforms this remarkable journey into a new multimedia concert. \nComposer Steven Ricks\, writer Stephen Tuttle\, and video artist Brent Barson come together to reimagine the journals and experiences of the Domínguez-Escalante expedition through live music and projected imagery. The concert explores not only the physical experience of traveling through an extraordinary landscape\, but also the cultural\, racial\, and religious encounters that shaped—and complicated—the history of the region. \nPerformed by St. George-based Grand Circle New Music\, with guest conductor Nathan Haines\, Almost All to the West invites audiences to experience a familiar Western story from new perspectives and consider what exploration has meant—for the people who traveled west\, the people and cultures already here\, and the landscape itself. \n  \nTICKETS \n  \nAlmost All to the West is supported by a 2026 Interdisciplinary Studies Grant from the BYU Charles Redd Center for Western Studies. \n\nGrand Circle New Music is guided by the artistic direction of Glenn Webb and Robert Matheson.

SUMMARY:From the Borderlands to the Roots
DESCRIPTION:DANCE\nPunto de Inflexión Project\nFrom the Borderlands to the Roots\nCreated by Peter Hay & Stephanie García\nFriday\, November 20\, 7:30pm\nSaturday\, November 21\, 3:00pm\n\nFrom the Borderlands to the Roots is a multidisciplinary exploration of migration\, identity\, labor\, and belonging. Inspired by Latinx culture and immigrant experiences\, the work considers migration in its many forms—across national borders\, within countries\, and between communities—and the sacrifices\, transformations\, and resilience that accompany the search for a new home. At its heart\, the work honors the laborers and working-class individuals whose contributions sustain our communities\, while celebrating the cultural histories\, traditions\, and identities they carry with them. \nCreated by acclaimed Mexican choreographer and interdisciplinary artist Stephanie García and visual and conceptual artist Peter Hay\, the project brings together two artists with extensive international experience and a shared commitment to collaboration and cultural exchange. García\, a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow in Choreography\, has created more than 30 interdisciplinary works presented across the Americas\, Europe\, and Africa and is co-founder and co-director of Punto de Inflexión Project and PROArtes México. Hay\, also co-director of PROArtes México\, is an accomplished visual artist\, educator\, and arts administrator whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally\, from New York City to Colombia and Bulgaria. Together\, García and Hay create work that moves across artistic disciplines and borders\, inviting audiences to encounter questions of place\, culture\, memory\, and connection in new ways. \n  \nTICKETS
