This year’s Voyager Lecture Series follows “The History of This Land,” from the deep time studied in geology, through modern concerns related to our changing environment.
Our final lecture of this series comes from Dr. Katharine S. Walter, an infectious disease epidemiologist based in Salt Lake City. Landscape development and climate change are elevating the risk of a new fungal infection in Southern Utah: Valley Fever. Join Dr. Walter, along with Dr. Ginamarie Foglia, as they discuss dangerous emerging fungal pathogens, Valley Fever, and the implications of very local projects including the proposed Dry Wash reservoir.

Dr. Katharine S. Walter is an infectious disease epidemiologist based in Salt Lake City. She is an assistant professor of internal medicine at University of Utah and holds a PhD in Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases from Yale University.
Dr. Ginamarie Foglia, has over 30 years of healthcare experience as an internationally known subject matter expert in infectious disease, internal medicine, public health, clinical trial research & development, medical education and wellness. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. Dr. Foglia most recently served as a Senior Advisor, Subject Matter Expert & Strategist for Vaccines/Biologics, Shabas Solutions, supporting the U.S. Health & Human Services (HHS), Biomedical Advanced Research & Development Authority (BARDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in infectious disease and public health countermeasures. She also is an Adjunct Professor at Rocky Vista University College of Medicine in southern UT.
